Going no contact with a parent, in my opinion, is never an easy choice. It is oftentimes gut-wrenching and emotional, but perhaps even more so when your parent is ill. What are you supposed to do then?

I had to make such a choice, numerous times over my life, where my own parents are concerned.

Here I talk about my father, who is a chronic alcoholic and the devastating effects its had on his life, our relationship and my health and well being.

Over the years I've hit breaking points, literally, where I've had to step back and go no contact because seeing him destroy himself brings me so much pain, that I in turn become physically and emotionally ill by it.
